Autograph letter signed to J.C. Adams

Proceedings of previous day's meeting of R.A.S. Airy's objections to lack of accurate orbit [of Neptune]. Means of calculating that orbit. On the nature of scientific discovery. Regrets that JCA does not have means to exclude LeVerrier from a share in the credit of discovery of Neptune.

Request for JCA to write report for RAS annual report on attack on LeVerrier and his reply. Wishes that he might have similar justification from JCA on his own account. Business for next meeting of RAS.

Exact position of Neptune: reasons for error in calculating it. Error by LeVerrier compounded by Peirce: suggests JCA might untangle muddle. Also Lassell to be asked about the satellites. Will send Greenwich Lunar reductions. Irish politics.
