David Sturge rowed for LMBC for several years, first from 1966 to 1969 as an undergraduate, then from 1972 to 1976 as a PhD student. During the latter time, he and fellow members of the Club, Neil Christie and Jamie MacLeod, were particularly successful, winning all of the Cambridge small boats events, rowing as Head of the Mays, and going on to represent Great Britain in a coxed four in the World Championships of 1974, and then rowing separately in pairs in succeeding years.
