Privy Council Petition- Cambridge Colleges: EAB

Includes: Benians' copy of the proceedings on Privy Council petition by Peterhouse and other Cambridge colleges vs Pembroke and Queens' Colleges regarding rules for entrance awards agreed in the Univeristy Commission of 1923. Also includes correspondence between the masters and bursars of the Colleges involved in the case.

Mortgages and Deeds of Extension

The file contains two mortgage contracts to secure loans from the Exchequer Bill Loan Commission for the construction of New Court. There is also a deed of extension for the repayment of each loan.

Extracts from will of Janet M Beith, leaving scholarship funds

Janet Beith bequeathed, in 1965, money for one scholarship or studentship in memory of William Elgar Buck (St John's College, B.A.1871, d.1887), for research in medicine, surgery or a related natural science. The award is made to a person who is at the time of selection an undergraduate or graduate of an Australian University, with preference to the University of Adelaide.

Notes of the terms of William Robson's gift, 1638

Two near-contemporary copies of the terms of William Robson's gift for two sub-sizarships at St John's. One is annotated with the elections of two exhibitioners in 1643 and 1644, Richard Lawrence and Henry Newcombe. Both are endorsed 'Salters' Company' (or 'Company of Salters')

Copy of will of Charles Williamson

Copy of will and extract of same, leaving funds for scholarship to St John's College.
Williamson, who was British Chaplain at Smyrna, bequeathed 20 Spanish doublons, 4 doublons, 11 Venetian chicers, and debts to value 15,000 piastres, at 15%, owed him by the towns of Hydonies in Havialie and Scala Nova, to endow an exhibition for scholars from Ystradmadeurig School, Cardiganshire. The candidate was to be the best Greek scholar in the School.
