Octogenarian speeches (St John the Evangelist Day Dinner)

Speeches made by Fellows on reaching their 80th (and 90th) birthdays, made by invitation at the St John the Evangelist's Day Dinner. The Dinner in 2021 being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, octogenarian speeches were made at the Domus Day, January 2022. Speeches by:

Steward's Bread & Beer Accounts

Book titled ‘Steward’s bread & beer accounts 1860---------‘ recorded bread delivery date, baker’s allowance, flour consumed, flour quantity and value, balance due to college (1860); bread and beer bursar’s balances on brewhouse, flour consumed, flour quantity and value (1861-1865); bakehouse account from 1865-1877.

Kitchen & Buttery Ledger: Steward

Kitchen and buttery ledger including loose items; kitchen transaction file report (1985); kitchen & catering receipts (1986); sales invoices (1980, 1982, 1986); petty cash analysis of year ending 30 June 1986; kitchen journals of accounts; kitchen trial balance 30 June 1985 and notes on pay rates.

Wine and Tobacco Accounts: Steward

Includes the Steward's accounts of wine, cigars and cigarettes consumed by Fellows. Also included is a notebook containing a printed list of charges for tobacco provided in the combination room accounts for cigar/cigarette sales. This notebook also contains loose sheets pertaining to reciepts of tobacco sales; a list of the Master & Fellows for 1974; a stock list of wine and tobacco (1974-1975); a Fellows' dinner menu for 1972 and a few handwritten notes.

Steward's account book recording telephone charges (1923-1935); conferences; university compounders (1913-1933); non-compounders (1930-1936); certificate of residence (1930-1936); dining privileges; Fellows' cycles (1919-1936); gyps' & bedmakers' pensions (1919); naval accounts (1919-1923); coal & light fund (1912-1914); cadets' accounts (1916-1920); cycle room rent (1915-1918); repairs to Fellows' furniture (1921-1936).

Also included a list of delegates staying in College (1926); correspondence about conference accommodation (1926); a list of names of teachers in secondary schools (1927); letter from the University of London to College (1926); a monthly statement and a few handrwitten notes.

Includes: Organ music by Max Reger played in St John's College by Brian Runnett (formerly given as part of the Brian Runnett prize).
