Scott and Mayor Statutes: copies

Three copies of 16th-17th century statutes. The first volume includes decrees of seniors 1569, 1627 and the statute regarding law fellowships 19 June 1635. This volume was submitted with a petition to the Home Office in 1848 for a grant of new statutes. It was returned to the College by the Home Office in 1907.

The second volume is the same, with the exception that it omits the decrees of seniors. This volume was purchased by R.F. Scott, when he was Master, in 1918. The volume contains his bookplate and the receipt for purchase.

The third volume contains notes of by-foundations and a copy of the University statutes.

Long Books: College Seniors

'Long books' (Fellows' butler): monthly accounts for the sizings & other internal college expenses, of fellows, fellow commoners, graduates (M.A. and above) on the books of the college 1736-1929, (1739-44 lacking).

By an order of 1883 'commons' dinner in hall was henceforth charged directly to the college, not reckoned as a charge against the fellows' bills of fare. The earlier practice probably explains why commons and sizings are so confusingly similar in the accounts.

Reyner's Statutes

Two volumes of College statutes with note on by-foundations and benefactors. The first has a list of names in the front including: Mansfield Price, Richard Beadon, W. Pearce, Geo. Whitmore 1787 and Tho. Catton 1797. The second volume inlcudes a letter of presentation of a College senior divine to a living. Also includes correspondence related to the history of the second volume.

Praelector's Notebooks

Includes: four notebooks recording the praelector's duties, successively revised. In Volume 1 there is a long note relating to the personal circumstances of William Moody, questionist in 1818 (see fol.7v). The volumes also list caution and fee charges according to the pupil's status (nobleman, fellow commoner, pensioner and sizar). Also includes a praelector's book of fees paid by the candidates for entry to the first MB mechanical sciences and previous examinations from 1946-1955.

Bills and Receipts

Records relating to payment for the construction work on New Court. Includes bills, statements of account and receipts, as well as certifications of works completed on the basement, foundations and above-ground construction.

Registers: Junior Dean

Registers of Junior Dean containing records of conduct of undergraduates in personal discipline, chapel attendance and academic performance. (Codes are explained in front of first volume)

Registers: Senior Dean

Registers of Senior Dean, recording chapel attendance and measures of discipline (according to codes, key to which is in front of second volume). Also includes Senior Dean's register of fines for non-attendance at Chapel.

Account Books and attendance lists

Includes the class lists of Brumell and other tutors; also includes student accounts; lists of students who have paid their fees and the dates of some examinations.
Although described in earlier catalogues as account books, vols 2-5 appear to be attendance lists
