Encouraging Hartnup in meridian observations, especially planets and comets. Would like to see JCA in a University post; suggests Lowndean Professorship. Will be ready to print [on Neptune] in mid September: requires JC to provide observations.

Has sent copies of the Nautical Almanac 1847 - 1850, via Challis, as a gift in admiration of JCA's discovery of Neptune. Has consulted with Sheepshanks: JCA's paper on the discovery is to printed immediately and issued as an appendix to the Nautical Almanac. In the interests of speed requests JCA to come to London to read the proofs. Copyright arrangements.
