The collection contains literary papers, including notebooks, manuscript and typescript drafts of sketches, novels and scripts; personal papers, including school and university work, notebooks, and ephemera; audio-visual material; and personal effects and artefacts, spanning from Douglas Adams's childhood to his death in 2001. In addition there is a quantity of press cuttings postdating his death. Media other than paper include sound recordings (chiefly reel-to-reel studio tapes; some cassettes); photographs, 35 mm transparencies and plastic negatives (a large quantity of photographic material is from 'Last Chance to See'); and digital backup tapes.

Papers relating to the abolition of the slave trade and slavery; papers relating to the Republic of Haiti and the Kingdom of Haiti; papers relating to the Clarkson Family, including Catherine Clarkson, and friends; and miscellaneous papers including those relating to recent research into Clarkson's work. The majority of the papers date from Clarkson's lifetime.

Correspondence of JWC discussing theological matters and details of his church work and life in Natal; a notebook containing copies of letters sent to JWC on theological matters; correspondence arising from the visit of the Reverend James D La Touche to Natal in support of the work of JWC. Notes relating to Colenso compiled by Paul Murray, Visiting Colenso Fellow at SJC Michaelmas 2022-Lent 2023 are appended.

There is an extensive collection of published works and related material and also of Jeffreys correspondence. Also included is a large collection of photographs, reflecting Jeffreys interest in the medium.
