Effect on expedition plans for this year, possibly no work at Ibrim at all. 'I thought I should let you have the melancholy news as quickly as possible.'

Discusses revisions in his report (sent with letter; also Xerox copy of 1037 plan marked up with corrections [neither present]) sent for inclusion in the interim publication; plans for own publication. Very sorry that Alexander has given up directorship of Qasr Ibrim; discusses his own future involvement; matters of funding. Willing to fly over 'to talk the matter out with those who are to be involved.' E.E.S. [Egypt Exploration Society] needs 'to make its wishes felt rather more clearly than it has yet done.' Has talked to Peter Rowley-Conwy about sending radiocarbon samples. Will send field notes to Alexander; asks in return for copies of Alexander's field notes for 1037 in 1984 and prints of black and white negatives from the 1037 excavation.

Thanks him for his letter concerning directorship of Qasr Ibrim excavations; pleased to discuss further. Had intended to visit him soon; working through his Soba wares, badly needs dating evidence, has difficulty recognising wares from Bill Adams's verbal descriptions in new book; wishes to compare his with whatever material Alexander has from Qasr Ibrim or other sites in Northern Nubia and with him and/or Pam Rose, with their familiarity with Bill Adams's methodology.

Acknowledges her letter of 13 September; regrets lack of space for inclusion in the [Geographical] Journal. Together with copy of Rowell's note and query on the possible 'salad earthenware vessel'(including illustration) from excavation of early 18th century wreck at Sharm el Sheik, and compliments slip (the Editor, The Geographical Journal, Royal Geographical Society, London) asking Alexander if he can help.
