Expedition to Malaysia

Contains letters and cards to and from RHY relating to the University Expedition to Malaysia 1899-1900. Includes personal letters from RHY to his family, letters to RHY from W.W. Skeat, M.R. Baldwin, Henry Burkill, H. Harold W. Pearson, and Alfred P. Wallace. Letters from 1910 relate back to matters associated with the expedition. There is also a list of equipment with translations, and a list of articles wanted from Eaden Lilley and other Cambridge suppliers from E Third Court, St John's.

South Africa trip

Letters written by RHY to his mother during a trip to South Africa in 1905. Also includes a letter written in August 1906 from a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in York at which RHY gave a lecture on South African vegetation, and a press cutting about the lecture.

Davos trip

Letters sent by and to RHY during a health trip to Switzerland and Italy. The majority (16) are from RHY to his mother, two more are to his sister. There are also letters to RHY from his mother, E.M. Freeman, and E.A. Newell Arber.

1909-10 travel

Two letters from RHY to his mother, from the train en route to London on 27 July 1910 and having just boarded the S.S. Vectis on 28 July 1910. An accompanying ticket wallet contains a flier for the S.S. Vectis cruise leaving Tilbury for the Norwegian Fjords on 28 July 1910, together with other tickets, and a ribbon for the British Association Edmonton meeting 11 September 1909 and excursion ticket for the British Association office-bearers and guests for an excursion at the Winnipeg meeting 1909.

Professional correspondence

Letters written to RHY on botanical matters. Most date from 1911 to 1914; there is one letter from 1926. Also included is the menu and seating plan for the Royal Society's anniversary dinner in 1913. One letter includes a plant sample.

Family correspondence

Letters between members of the Yapp family to RHY or Lajla or them both. The majority are from RHY's mother, but there are also letters from his brother Arthur, his sister Ada, or her husband Will. Four letters were written by RHY to his mother from Italy in 1911. There is also a letter from F.E. Weiss.

Cambridge

Fourteen handwritten letters to RHY, plus a press-cutting relating to St John's examination results, with RHY's name underlined, and a handwritten list of herbarium curators, on which Yapp appears 1899-. There is a mix of personal and official correspondence.
