'Hutton on Hering in Nature & Alpers on Hutton'

Extract from Nature, 18 February 1904, featuring F.W. Hutton's article'Hering's Theory of Heredity, and its Consequences'. An autograph letter from O.J.I. Alpers to Henry Festing Jones, dated 11 May 190[4] and written in response to the article, is attached.

'Emendationes Homericae (Od. XVII-XIX)', by T.L. Agar

Offprint from the Journal of Philology; cited as Vol. XXVIII (1903), actually No. 55 (1901). Bound in a paper cover, inscribed by Butler: 'T.L. Agar's "Emendationes Homericae" as he is please to call the emendations which he proposes for the Odyssey / See p. 71. &c [?] - for some very careless, incorrect, & unintelligent remarks on the passage describing the brooch of Ulysses -'. The author refers to Butler on p.72 of the article.

Proof copy of 'Holbein's Dance' from the Athenaeum Printing Office, with MS corrections by Samuel Butler. A note in his hand reads: 'Set up by the Athenaeum, but not published by that paper. See my letters of Oct. 19 1886, & thereabouts.'
