Signed and dated by William Craven, Master of St John's, certifying that Samuel Butler had resided at College from October 8th 1796 to this day. To which Samuel Butler has added his own note, addressed to Mr Harris, Rugby, Warwickshire (later crossed through) and dated the following day. A further note on the reverse in another hand says 'No.10 Mr Butler £20 Lady day 1797'. The accompanying correspondence relating to the donation of this document are also enclosed.
