Autograph letter to Beaton, from Bangor

Hopes Beaton and Eileen will be coming to his birthday party. David Herbert has three boils on his bottom and is in Tangier but still hopes to make the party. Looks forward to seeing Beaton with joy.

Lady Rosamund Gladstone. Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from Flintshire.

Thanks Beaton for the trouble he has taken over introducing them to the d'Etlangers (?). Thought Beaton might like the enclosed photograph of flowers. Mentioned to Beaton the diamond ring which Mummy wore which is Beaton's. Asks if Beaton would like one of them to bring it to London or if he would prefer her to send it to whoever is to have it. Mummy has left her the portrait of Granny by Swinstead. Is happy for Beaton to keep it for as long as he would like to have it, as long as it comes to her eventually.

Gladstone, Lady Rosamund (b 1939)

David Parsons. Autograph letter signed to Beaton.

Hopes Beaton had some joy of the lily-bulbs last year. Is going to make sure that he has this year, as he felt such joy at Beaton's "romantic intertwangle" with Garbo. As a teenager he used to queue up for the Garbo first nights. He always despaired of MGM who never provided her with good enough leading men. His aunt met her a few times and he always asked her for every detail. Garbo's eyelashes were supposedly so long that they got tangled up when she closed her eyes. Is going to see his sister this summer. Perhaps he could come to Beaton and bring some bulbs as well as some acidic soil to neutralise his chalk. Will write again nearer the time to see if Beaton is likely to be at home.

Parsons, David (fl 1970-1980)

Funeral and memorial service

Order of service for CB's funeral at All Saints Church, Broadchalke, 23 January 1980. Order of service for CB's memorial service at St Martin-in-the-Fields, 6 March 1980. A copy of Richard Buckle's typed address for Beaton at his memorial service.

Autograph letter, Beaton to Loos.

Comments on her lovely letter. 'I like you live in an emporium which I fill with charming memories.'

Envies Paulette's resistance, never getting any older. 'She must have a wealth of dignity as well as $3,000,000 worth of paintings to sell!'

Tragedy of Natascha's state. Just had David Herbert visit from Tangier; is now looking after Michael Duff who is near the end of a terrible cancer.

Excuse rotten writing. No news 'except War, threats of strikes and the sort of news that send[s] one off the rocker. I haven't been to London for nearly two months, and that is the best I have to offer you!'

Snow has turned to pouring rain. Half of the country is wind swept.
