Letter to Carmel [Snow?] from Beaton
Part of Papers of Sir Cecil Beaton
Typescript letter, in which Beaton writes that he is pleased to hear that Carmel is going to use the photographs of his winter garden. In its present-day form, the fashion of the winter garden is no longer for hot houses, but for places which are heated only sufficiently enough to exclude the extreme cold of the winter months. Beaton describes his winter garden, which was built by Felix Hart. He adds that he hopes that the notes he has made in his letter will be of use.
Carbon copy ALS to Greta Garbo from Reddish House
Part of Papers of Sir Cecil Beaton
Refers to a telephone conversation with Garbo. Complains about his business in London, the cold weather and his domestic troubles. Plans to go to Paris and to stay with Diana Cooper at Chantilly, as the water at Reddish will be turned off whilst an aga is fitted. Informs Garbo of his plans to travel to America on 30 November and be in New York about 5 December. Invites her to spend Christmas with him. Suggests that she should appear in a film version of a book about Florence Nightingale that he has just read. Postscript written the next day regarding the death of King Gustav V of Sweden.

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from Wilsford Manor, Salisbury.

When Beaton gets this letter he will have heard of his great loss. The thought of ones friends "makes the loneliness a little better". Knows Beaton will grieve with him.

Excuses himself for not having written the previous Sunday. Sends a list of events of the week before it, including the death and memorial service of Sibyl Colefax, and the return of Beaton's secretary. Thanks Garbo for her letter. Suggests that Nella Webb got the dates of her predications wrong as they are both going through frustrating times. Longs for Garbo.

Has looked in all of the albums and scrap books for the colour Blumenfeld photograph, but cannot find it. Asks if it could still be in the country. Apologises for being a nuisance.
