Whether LeVerrier should be mentioned in light of his and Delaunay's part in the controversy over the secular variation of the moon's mean motion. Accuracy of Hansen's and Plana's theories. Encloses copy of Delaunay's letter.

[JCA's comments on De La Rue's speech on awarding Gold Medal of RAS] Acknowledges copy of Hansen's letter sent. Disagrees with H's assertion that he never contested JCA's theory of the secular acceleration of the moon: H caused LeVerrier to attack JCA and Delaunay, and is now adapting his own theory without admitting it might be wrong.

Encloses some letters from LeVerrier, brought back from Paris, which LeVerrier gave to be passed on to JCA. The attack on LeVerrier by Babinet appeared to be inspired by party feeling.

Sends Farley's tables of Lunar Parallax. JCA asked to write and thank him for them. Dealing with JCA's request of 24th. Comptes Rendus for 5 Apr. 1852 contains something by LeVerrier which JCA should see.
