Sends a photograph of the Band (not attached). Points out personalities from his old Fusiliers band: Cyril May, Dick Morgan, George Beck, Wally Lewis, Al Burke, Dicky Bird, Gus Kensdale, Arthur Carter, and Bampton 'boy'. Hopes for a letter from his parents. Refers to a production of 'Philadelphia Story' that is being staged in the camp. Assures them that he is busy with Greek, concerts and funerals.

Reports that he has been busy playing and transcribing music, teaching Greek, cooking, planning a chambermusic concert and acting as everyone's confidant. Asks his parents not to send clothes but to send cigarettes, as they are currency in the POW camp. Mentions that he conducted 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik with a string octet. Refers to correspondence with Sissie. Asks them to tell Sister Gerard that he lost the medal with his identity disks and undertakes to tell the story when he returns home. Sends love to Mrs Rose, Mr Bussey, Francis and Wendy.

Writes that it is raining which will be good for his allotment. Mentions that he is revising his Roman History whilst his Greek pupil is too busy for lessons. Thanks them for clothes and cigarette parcels. Sends regards from Dick Morgan and George Beck.

Reports that he has been busy producing the incidental music for 'Macbeth'. Worries because he has not had a letter from his parents for a while. Describes the August Bank Holiday Carnival in the POW camp. Mentions that he has revised 'the whole of Roman History'. Sends news that Eric Holmgren and Charlie Osborne are still alive despite earlier news to the contrary.

Wishes he could suspend time during the war. Writes that the 'unnatural existance' in the POW camp makes the inmates irritable so he often acts as a 'patcher-up of quarrels': he is becoming as ill-tempered as when he was studying for his University Scholarship. Reports that his allotment is doing well. Mentions that the band's two best trumpet players have been injured in accidents. Refers to correspondence from Deryck [Viney] and Gretel Grey, and the lack of it from Betty. Mentions that Peter Starnes has become a curate in Dorset. Sends his love to Mr Bussey and the Rose family.

Writes that he has had news, from Deryck [Viney], that Deryck is in the army and the College [possibly Dulwich College] was bombed. Refers to a letter from Mrs Hulbert praising his parents hospitality. Hopes Tom is well, as he is not mentioned in her letter. Reports that he is organising another chamber music concert and the POW camp is preparing its third Arts and Crafts Exhibition. Mentions that his Easter remittance was never made.
