ALS from Michael Lumley, Piraeus, Greece.

He reports that there may be an almshouse for his occupancy available in Wells, the proviso being that he would need to live in lodgings within that area for a maximum of six months, in order to be eligible for that domicile.

ALS from Carreta Gornarathe

Thanks Crook for his concern but nobody close to her was affected by the tsunami. She describes the force of the waves as mind boggling. She states that corruption and inefficiency are beginning to creep in. She is busy marking student exams which were postponed due to the tsunami.

TLS from Ruth Nicholls, University of New England, Armidale

Updates Crook on her family and her life as lecturer in 'methods of teaching languages'. She mentions that Jim has taken early retirement from UNE. She recounts a recent trip to China and her experiences in schools there. She was 'everywhere struck by the similarities and contrasts between Australia and China.' A post script by Jim Nicholl wonders if St John's College or the Cambridge University Library would like to receive any of his father's library., which he has just started to catalogue in a 'very amateurish way'.

TLS from Paul McKechnie, University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Notes that despite Crook's assistance, he has not been advanced to Associate Professor (A letter from the University of Auckland to Crook confirming this information is attached: 1 page). McKechnie mentions that Jenny is well thought of in her department (Chemistry), meriting her a pay rise; and that James has passed six of his eight courses en route to his intended major (Psychology).
