Funeral and memorial service

Order of service for CB's funeral at All Saints Church, Broadchalke, 23 January 1980. Order of service for CB's memorial service at St Martin-in-the-Fields, 6 March 1980. A copy of Richard Buckle's typed address for Beaton at his memorial service.

Autograph letter, Beaton to Loos.

Comments on her lovely letter. 'I like you live in an emporium which I fill with charming memories.'

Envies Paulette's resistance, never getting any older. 'She must have a wealth of dignity as well as $3,000,000 worth of paintings to sell!'

Tragedy of Natascha's state. Just had David Herbert visit from Tangier; is now looking after Michael Duff who is near the end of a terrible cancer.

Excuse rotten writing. No news 'except War, threats of strikes and the sort of news that send[s] one off the rocker. I haven't been to London for nearly two months, and that is the best I have to offer you!'

Snow has turned to pouring rain. Half of the country is wind swept.

Typescript carbon copy letter, Loos to Beaton.

Praises his 'Self Portrait With Friends'. Reading it interfered with writing the afterpiece Scribner's asked her to write for Bob's album; comments on Bob's health. Beholden to James Berry for most charming photographs he took of Gladys, Miss Moore and her. 'That he managed to make me look younger by twenty years is a miracle nobody but he and you understand.' Expresses gratitude.

Hugo Vickers. Autograph letter to Beaton.

Thanks Beaton for having him to lunch last Tuesday. Was fascinated by all he told him. The picture of Princess Marina is now in a frame opposite his desk. Is tremendously excited by all the developments since their meeting. After Christmas he will ring Beaton up and arrange to come and see him as soon as possible. Laura has seen Diana Cooper once or twice and she is still "carrying on with customary resilience". Hopes Beaton will have a very happy Christmas. Looks forward to seeing him in the New Year.

Vickers, Hugo (b 1951) writer, broadcaster and journalist

Wayne Lee Radziminski. Autograph letter signed to Beaton.

It has been a long time since he and Beaton chatted. The summer of '79 has proved to be work-filled, relaxing and fun. In Beaton's last letter he said that he was happy for Radziminski to name his house Reddish. He is welcome to visit when the house is "somewhat hospitable". Is back to teaching. Discusses the change in attitude of students. With the Ansel Adams exhibit there is much talk concerning photography. Beaton comes to mind whenever that art is discussed. Asks Beaton if he is currently doing any projects. Is looking for a copy of "The Best of Cecil Beaton". Could Beaton send one? With photograph of Radziminski.

Radziminski, Wayne Lee (fl 1979)

Christopher Richard Sandford Buckle. Postcard to Beaton.

Is sitting with Rose in the Hotel before lunch. Beaton's American jacket is going to be a disaster. Reviews of D. are moderate. Lincoln is very nice and asked after Beaton.

Buckle, Christopher Richard Sandford (1916-2001) writer, critic, exhibition designer

Colin Anderson. Postcard to Beaton, from Jersey.

Has opened Beaton's letter. Apologises for not saying goodbye to Beaton after that 'Solemn Occasion'. Thought Beaton would have stayed on for the lunch. Has given Beaton's messages to Morna and La Rose. It is a good season for roses.

Anderson, Sir Colin (1904-1980)
