Autograph letter, signed, to the editors of the Cambridge Medieval History from G. L. Burr, New York

Some years before had been asked to write on magic, witchcraft and astrology but will now have to refuse. Feels it is best to let them know now before they contact him and it is too late. Has been prevailed upon to be literary executor to two old friends and has now no time to write anything further. Suggests Professor Lynn Thorndike as a possible replacement or Dr Joseph Hansen. Feels that astrology no longer should be bracketed with witchcraft and magic but more associated with astronomy and suggests Professor Tatlock may be interested.

Copy of letter, in French, 'Cher Monsieur', from C. H. Diehl

Apologises for delay in replying. Sends bibliography for the four chapters already sent. Will send the MS for chapter on civilization in July. Has passed on the chapter for legislation to his colleague M. Colhinet and this will be finished in August. Hopes that the delay will not be inconvenient.
