Copy of letter to W. De La Rue

[JCA's comments on De La Rue's speech on awarding Gold Medal of RAS] Acknowledges copy of Hansen's letter sent. Disagrees with H's assertion that he never contested JCA's theory of the secular acceleration of the moon: H caused LeVerrier to attack JCA and Delaunay, and is now adapting his own theory without admitting it might be wrong.

Adams, John Couch (1819-1892) astronomer

Copy of autograph letter signed to Charles Delaunay

Another copy of 16/19/2. Authorisation for CD to publish JCA's expression of coefficient of principal term of the latitude [of the moon?]. Adds equation for principal inequality of the true latitude, and comparisons with Plana and Pontecoulant's results.

Adams, John Couch (1819-1892) astronomer

Copy of autograph letter signed to Charles Delaunay

See 16/20/3 for another copy. Appreciation of CD's explanation of discrepancy between value of secular acceleration of moon's mean motion, and that derived from ancient eclipses. Likely to be attacked by Pontecoulant.

Adams, John Couch (1819-1892) astronomer

Draft? autograph letter signed to Charles Delaunay

Another copy of 16/20/2. Appreciation of CD's explanation of discrepancy between value of secular acceleration of moon's mean motion, and that derived from ancient eclipses. Likely to be attacked by Pontecoulant.

Adams, John Couch (1819-1892) astronomer

Autograph letter signed to J.C. Adams

Requests information on Gravitational Astronomy. 1. Lunar Theory; Delaunay Theorie du mouvement de la lune Vol.2 p 803. 2. Laplace on stability of solar system.

Airy, Sir George Biddell (1801-1892) Knight, astronomer

Copy of letter to G.B. Airy

Explanation of how G.B.A. has misunderstood Delaunay's lunar formula. Agrees about stability of solar system. Would like to see model of transit of Venus.
