Autograph letter to J.C. Adams

Will be difficult to get authorities to carry on experiments with low velocities; mentions Mr Bashforth; would be glad to get copy of Adams's pamphlet.

Sladen, Joseph [?] (fl 1856)

Manuscript copies of two propositions regarding Neptune

'Proposition I. The planet Neptune accounts for the previously unexplained irregularities in the motions of Uranus so perfectly that Uranus no longer indicates the probable existence of an unknown external planet or of any error in the mass of Saturn. Proposition II. Neptune is not the planet which was predicted by geometry.'

Possibly connected with the attacks by Peirce, Babinet and others on the veracity of Adams's and LeVerrier's results. Probably originally sent to Adams enclosed with a letter.
