Has been ill and had to stop writing for a while but has recovered and the second volume of his work is at the press. Gives a report on the Bishop's illness and subsequent recovery. Sends the Bishop's regards to various people, and also sends a dozen copies of the 'Discourses'. Expresses his gratitude for help with the 'matter of the Pepys Library'.

Gives information, as requested, on the instruments of the astronomical observatory at Munich which GZ has had constructed. This information has been requested a view to building an observatory at Cambridge. GZ will supply all instruments if required.

Sends congratulations on the engagement of AJC. Will feel the loss of AJC at college and gives fulsome praise as to his past conduct. Is extremely busy but would like to arrange a visit to Barrow and reminds AJC that 'the greatest difficulty [he] meets with on leaving home is to find sufficiently plain food for [his] capricious digestive organs'.

Effusively sends greetings to all the Johnians he knows, and contends he feels he is one of them. Gives news of the death of friends. Hopes that a visit to Ireland by AJC will be forthcoming. Has been asked by Mr Goulburn to recommend him as a representation of Cambridge and would like to press his claim.

Describes the circumstances surrounding the detection of a man who had four wives simultaneously. Includes a copy of a solicitor's letter confirming that the man was already married and a copy of the marriage register proving the fact.
