Letter signed to an unknown recipient, from 127 Park Street

'Dear Sir, I did not know of the proposed meeting on Monday. And I have unluckily business which calls me out of town, preventing my return before five or six o'clock on Thursday next. If I am wanted in any way before that time I hope you will make an excuse of necessity for me. Yours very truly, Castlereagh.'

Stewart, Robert (1769-1822) Viscount Castlereagh and 2nd Marquess of Londonderry, politician

Autograph letter signed to 'Dear Kennedy', from St James's Square

'Dear Kennedy, The situation of Secretary and Provost Martial in the island of Bermudas has fallen vacant - the climate is healthy, the office worth as I understand about £500 a year. It requires activity and diligence, and being a respectable situation I shall be happy to offer it to you, as I conclude you have not many affairs to settle at home, the sooner you go out the better. Your appointment shall be made out when you come to Town. Yours sincerely, Castlereagh.'
