JCA's note on Lubbock much welcomed by Herschel and used for speech. Encouragement to continue work on the planetary theory. Congratulations on coaching a Senior Wrangler.

Autograph letter signed to J.C. Adams

Reminds JCA about abstract of Breen's paper. Has asked Herschel to write historically of LeVerrier and Neptune. Reasons for choosing Herschel. Outlines the sort of account he would like written, in answer to Peirce's objections.

Herschel too busy to write account of Neptune controversy. An account from JCA published by the Society would carry weight, but if he cannot or will not write it he should not worry. Still waiting for abstract of Breen's paper. Has some good observations from [Hartnup] Liverpool [of Satellites of Neptune and/or Uranus?]
