Autograph letter signed to J.C. Adams

Thanks for paper on perturbations of Uranus, left some days since. Query: do assumed perturbations explain error of radius vector of Uranus.

Autograph letter signed to J.C. Adams

Plans to write R.A.S. an account of English discovery of new planet (Neptune). Requests permission to publish J.C.A.'s correspondence to him. Addressed to "Rev.W.J. Adams".

Typescript copy of article

Typescript copy, made for MacAlister's biography of Adams, of article "Account of some circumstances historically connected with the discovery of the planet exterior to Uranus", from the Memoirs of the RAS, Vol. 16 p.385. [Neptune]

Thanks for note of 18th. Mentioned J.C.A.'s lack of response to query in the published correspondence only because it was already public and seemed necessary to the full account. Makes suggestion for further table to accompany memoir of perturbations of Uranus.

Reply to J.C.A.'s of 29th. Comments on article in Mechanics Mag. Dec. 1846. Advises to wait for new observation of New Planet (Neptune) to measure its distance from sun, not to calculate. Thanks for further figures of position of planet. Does not favour Hansen's methods of calculation, nor LeVerrier's use of single observations. On the Lunar & planetary reductions calculated from Camb. Observatory

(See G.B.A. to J.C.A. 27 Mar.1851 for table of Saturn dated 1 Feb.1847).

In JCA's hand. Sends two equations from Hansen to explain the inequality of the moon's motion [missing]. Requests that JCA may be allowed to see the letter.
