Letter to Beaton

Typescript letter, in which Krawitz thanks Beaton for the prompt response to his cable and writes that Barbara Karinska is now proceeding with her work on the costumes for 'La Traviata'. A couple of problems have arisen during a detailed study of the production's stage scenery, however, which Krawitz feels should be discussed further. He concludes by suggesting that it would be very useful if Beaton could travel to New York within the next two weeks in order to resolve these problems.

Letter to Beaton

A typewritten letter, in which Krawitz suggests that Beaton contact Barbra Karinska, to offer her some encouragement. He also confirms that the orders have been placed for the wigs. The conductor, Stokowski, has requested that some of the musicians be placed on stage during the performance; if so, they will require costumes. However, Aoyama has not yet agreed to this and may not agree.

Letter to Beaton

Typescript letter; owing to the cancellation of the 1961/62 Metropolitan Opera season - due to ongoing disputes with the Musicians Union - the administration no longer requires Beaton's services as a set and costume designer for the production of "Adriana Lecouvreur", and therefore proposes to annul the contract he has made with them. This is because they cannot be sure when or even if a settlement can and will be reached, and certainly not in the short-term.
