Editions of printed music, mainly by Handel, Bach and Mendelssohn, owned and used by Samuel Butler, some with his annotations. Manuscript music notebooks of Samuel Butler, containing copied pieces and some original compositions. Manuscript fair copies of the orchestral parts for Samuel Butler and Henry Festing Jones's 'Ulysses: A Dramatic Oratorio'. Note: oversize volumes are stored on the shelves.

Bound volume containing: 'Handel's Celebrated Coronation Anthem set for the Voice and Harpsichord in a manner never before printed' (London: William Randall, [1775]); 'Songs in the Mask Acis and Galatea'; 'Songs in Esther' ([Walsh, 1732?]); 'The Songs, Duet & Trio with the Overture in the Masque of Comus set for the Violin German Flute and Harpsichord Composed by Dr. Arne' (London: Henry Thorowgood, [c.1765?]); 'The Black Birds: A Cantata set to music by Mr Isaac' (London: J. Johnson, [1760]). A concert programme for the Wimbledon Music Society's performance of Handel's 'Jephtha' on 7 February 1884 is inserted at the front of the volume.

Contains: 'Six Concertos for the Harpsichord or Organ composed by Mr Handel'; 'A Second Set of Six Concertos for the Harpsichord or Organ composed by Mr Handel'; 'Six Concertos set for the Harpsichord or Organ compos'd by Signor Giovanni Adolffo Hasse'; 'Six Overtures fitted to the Harpsichord or Spinnet... being proper pieces for the improvement of ye hand' (London: I. Walsh). Hardbound in one volume, containing brief annotations. Two sheets are tipped in at the front, one printed and one MS in an unknown hand (possibly eighteenth-century), of verses of drinking songs. The MS verse begins 'Upbraid me not, capricious fair' and has been suggested to be by the seventeenth-century poet Alexander Brome; Henry Festing Jones set the words to music. The printed verse, 'Punch the Medium of Life', is by the eighteenth-century composer Thomas Arne.
