The majority of this collection is by J. E. Marr. The papers relating to J. E. Marr are a collection of various items from his academic career and personal life. They contain: personal photo albums; photo albums of field trips; scrapbooks; geological pamphlets both by and sent to J. E. Marr; obituaries; sketches; and maps. The papers relating to F. A. Marr contain: photo albums, loose photos, and a file of correspondence and legal documents in relation to his parents' estates.

7 photo albums, 7 framed photos, many loose photographs of various sizes and subjects. Includes: portraits of family and contemporaries, both named and unnamed; family photos; photos from his student years in Cambridge; albums of field trips; and a few sketches.

Photo Albums

Photo albums of trips taken to Appleby, Settle, Switzerland, and a trip with the Sedgwick Club to Coniston. There are also two personal albums embossed with 'J. E. M.', one containing photos from his student years at St John's College, the other containing a collection of portraits (both named and unnamed). There is one album which contains loose photographs, sketches, cards, and dinner menus.

Appleby, 1895

Small, navy blue album. Title page reads 'Reading Party, Appleby, August 14-28 /95'. Some photos are accompanied by handwritten annotations. A labelled group photograph identifies Amy Birkett Marr and Francis Alleyne Marr. Locations named include: Scordale; Murton Pike; Brockram Quarry; Brownber; Dufton; Burrodale; Watendlath Tarn; Lodore; Ullswater; Patterdale.

Settle, Yorkshire, 1903

Large, thin, royal blue album. Title page reads 'Settle, Yorks., April 18-24 1903'. The majority of the photos are accompanied by an annotation. Locations include: Nottingham; Ingleton; Penyghent; Moughton Scar; Crummock Dale; Conistone. People named include: Major and Mrs Daniels; Dr Seligmann; Dr Strong.

Appleby, 1906

Large photo album with a red binding and flowers on the front. Title page reads 'Appleby, Easter Vac 1906'. Photos are mostly of rocks and landscapes, and include shots of various different pikes. There are some loose photographs tucked into the final page of photos.

Coniston, 1923

Large brown album with 'Coniston, 1923 / Sedgwick Club' on the front. Contains photos of a group trip taken to Coniston in 1923. Includes group photos of the Club and photos of rocks/the landscape. There is a large loose photograph of the Sedgwick Club, May 1923, tucked into the back of the album.

Cambridge

Brown album embossed with 'J. E. M.'. Contains photos from his students years in Cambridge, starting in 1878. Many photos are loose. Includes photos of: St John's College; King's College; Queens' College; Trinity College; Jesus College; Clare College; Magdalene College Cambridge; Magdalen College Oxford; The Lady Margaret Boat Club; Cambridge University Natural Sciences Club; The Eagles; The Gridirons; May Races; many places in Britain, particularly Wales; Punting. There are also two letters dated from 1860 tucked into the middle.
