Apologises for not replying to a letter thanking him for writing an obituary for the Very Reverend R. S. K. Seeley. Also apologises for not writing an obituary for Professor A. Y. Campbell. Explains these failures by telling of his move from Toronto to the University of North Carolina to become the Paddison Professor of Classics.

Answers his enquiry of 2 May regarding the arms of St John's College and Christs's College, being those of their foundress, Lady Margaret Beaufort. Discusses the eagle and coronet in particular. The letter is accompanied by an envelope addressed to John Hall-Craggs (matric. 1953) with whom at this time Tunstall was co-editing volume 2 of the history of the Lady Margaret Boat Club.
