ALS from 'Nyalura', Kenya

Has been dismayed to hear of MHAN's concussion and sends her condolences. Discusses her future plans, and believes she should stay in Africa for a while longer. Also discusses Louis Leakey's plans for a Kenya Institute of Archaeological and Anthropological Studies and hopes it happens as it would be better for Leakey to stay in Africa rather than to return to Cambridge. Discusses mutual acquaintances and their writings, including the work of Ivor Richards, and travels.

ALS from 'Lion Hill Camp', Kenya

Gives thanks for a recent letter, and tells of her recent loneliness. Is impressed by MHAN's letter writing skills. Aims to stay in Africa for some time and discusses her mental state in coming to that decision. Gives news of her work with Louis Leakey and the East African Archaeological Expedition; her lack of enthusiasm for the other members of the party and the boredom of the work. Gives a brief idea of future plans. Gives a detailed description of the surroundings and living conditions.

ALS from Elmeneita, Kenya

Gives thanks for the recent parcel received containing reading matter. Describes her recent experiences with the East African Archaeological Expedition; the intolerable conditions she had been living under before being sent by Louis Leakey to a better site with more amiable company. Notes that she is to leave the Expedition shortly, and gives reasons, including the difficulties she has experienced with Leakey and the 'spiritual discomfort' she has suffered. Gives her plans of going to a missionary station in the near future and then her vague ideas about the longer term.
