This breached New Zealand labour law. Catriona (his wife) has been involved in the legal backlash that has resulted and is now exhausted as a consequence. They send good wishes for Crook's forthcoming birthday.

Tells Crook of his visit to Australia for a conference. Looks forward to another visit to Cambridge, but is uncertain when it will take place. Looks forward to seeing the new portrait of the Master of St John's.

Gives an account of conferences he attended in France where he encountered an interest in his original approach to fluid mechanics and accoustics. States that he cherishes a desire to establish a true scientific collaboration with foreign scientists. (Three photographs are attached)

Informs Crook that the funding situation for scientific research in Russia is difficult, but that his last paper has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics. He attaches a photo of his recent visit to Kyoto. He expresses disappointment at not receiving replies to his proposals for research in England.
