Typescript letter, signed, from A.J. Dessler (Editor, Geophysical research letters) to FH

Has enjoyed FH's publications with Wickramasinghe. Invites FH to submit a paper on a suitable topic to Geophysical research letters. His 'editorial philosophy' is sympathetic to FH's cause. Encloses an article and editorial showing his attitude to referees: 'A turbulent interface', Geophysical research letters 13 (Jan. 1986), p. 1 and 'Editing JGR: space physics', Earth and sun 53 (Jan. 1972), pp. 4-13.

Typescript letter, signed, from Aidan A. Kelly (W.H. Freeman and Company, Publishers, San Francisco) to FH

Enclosed are galleys, marked and unmarked, of the new book, along with the manuscript; FH is to return the marked set with any corrections and the manuscript as soon as possible, but can keep the unmarked set and use it to start thinking about an index. Gives general advice to authors proofing their works, which he sincerely doubts 'will be news' to FH. Is very keen to prevent any delays in the production of the book.

Typescript letter, signed, from Aidan A. Kelly (W.H. Freeman and Company, Publishers, San Francisco)

Enclosed (not present) are 'author's set' and unmarked set of page proofs, and Fh's set of galleys, and galleys of the front matter. Asks FH to read and return the page proofs quickly, and to return them within the week, and to return the galleys. The unmarked set should be used to construct the index, which must be received by 24 Oct. FH should check the locations of previous errors to ensure that no more have crept in when corrections were made. He should make a note of any mistakes he notices after the book is published, as these can be corrected in subsequent printings.

Typescript letter, signed, from A.H. Gerrard, Groomsbridge, Tunbridge Wells, to FH

Heard FH being interviewed on BBC radio on 19 May, and it gives him hope to think that the human race occasionally produces artists who were 'away from the 'masses'' and whose minds 'were in charge of their senses'. Had to write these 'few words' to let FH know 'how much I appreciated and enjoyed' hearing FH's 'conception of Life'.
