Typescript letter, signed, from Richard Berendzen (Department of Astronomy, Boston University) to FH

Asks FH if he will participate in a symposium at Boston University entitled 'Life beyond Earth and the mind of man', to be held on 18 Nov. 1972. Gives details of the other invited and confirmed speakers, possible coverage by the news media, the provisional timetable for the day, travel and accommodation, and the small fee offered.

Typescript letter, signed, from Richard Atkinson, Wenvoe, Glamorgan, to FH.

Has read proofs of FH's 'Antiquity' article, which he hopes to discuss with FH when they meet on 5 Nov. Has received a new radiocarbon date of 1620 B.C. ± 110 for what is inferred to be the end of Stonehenge II. On archaeological grounds, Aubrey holes note used primarily for crematorial purposes. FH's idea of the use of "smudge fires" to facilitate the observation of the sun is a good one, but unverifiable.

Typescript letter, signed, from Richard Atkinson (Department of Archaeology, University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire) to FH.

Glyn Daniel has sent Atkinson a copy of FH's letter to nature. Makes comments on the inaccuracies of existing Ministry of Works plans of Stonehenge; the purpose of the Aubrey holes; and FH's statement that the direction from the centre of the circle to the Hell Stone marked exactly the azimuth of the midsummer sunrise.

Typescript letter, signed, from Rev. Desmond Morey, Maidstone, Kent, to FH

Has read Evolution from space. Wonders if it is still true, as stated on pp. 32-33, that FH and Wickramasinghe's views had not prompted the ferocious responses they expected. Asks if the mathematical arguments against Darwinism are being accepted by others. Thinks that the BBC have done scant justice to the current reassessment of Darwin.
