Typescript letter, signed, from Ingrid J. Knottley, Loughton, Essex, to FH

The article 'Race against the ice age', Sunday times (14 June 1981) has 'badly shaken' her peace of mind, and she feels 'gravely concerned' for the future of her children and grandchildren. Wants to know how to help as an individual, and which groups to support. Has written to popular women's magazines on the subject, and feels that the 'percentage of people reading the Sunday times mag. Is far to [sic] small'.

Typescript letter, signed, from Ian and Barbara (Mermaid Theatre, London) to FH

Apologises that their 'over-bright manager jumped the gun' by writing to FH, which Ian was going to do 'in due course'. The theatre has already got hold of £2 million for reconstruction work, but needs a further £500,000, for which they'll need a 'proper appeal document'. Asks FH to 'knock off' 40 or 50 words expressing his 'commendation' of their scientific side. Encloses a piece from Alex, Lord Todd (President, Royal Society) on the same subject, so that FH can 'steer clear of his actually wording'. Agree with Energy and extinction, as does Peter Carrington, to whom he gave a copy.

Typescript letter, signed, from I. Foley (IBM United Kingdom) to FH

Air conditioning for the Model 50 would need to be between 150 and 400 square feet; £10,000 is a reasonable estimate. Partition costs for internal walls would be around £8 - £10 per foot. A good quality acoustic ceiling would cost 5s to 10s per square foot. Recommends sinking the main floor slab so that steps and ramps become unnecessary. An 029 Card Punch requires 50 square feet, so five could be fitted into a room 16 feet by 16 feet.
