Part of Papers of Lyn Newman
Apologises for not replying sooner to Lyn's apprehensive letter about her work on Alison Cairns, with the news that she has found the letters from Alison and greatly enjoyed reading 'Field with Geese'. Recounts all the reasons for the delay: illness, builders and decorators, emotional unpreparedness for reading Alison's letters through, her work for the Woman's International League for Peace and Freedom, and a mad neighbour. Sympathises with Lyn about Max Newman's 'medieval attitude towards a gifted wife'. Encloses some of Alison's letters. Recalls aiding Marthe Spender (wife of Hugh Spender) interned at Vittel. Discusses photographs of Alison and refers to Witold Langrod.
