College audit books, known as the 'Balance Books' detailing monies, charges, receipts and expenditures at the end of the financial year for individual College officers such as the Bursars, the Steward and the Librarian. In some cases the entries are signed by the Master and Seniors.
These are much less detailed than the volumes of Rentals (annual accounts) catalogued as SJAR/3/2/4
The items are arranged chronologically.
A 'modern' note inside the volume suggests that some of the writing is in the hand of William Gilbert [author of De Magnete]. It has been suggested that it is his signature and entries in 1569-1570.
"De Magnete, Magneticisque Corporibus et de Magno Magnete Tellure" [On the Magnet and Magnetic Bodies, and on That Great Magnet the Earth] is a scientific work published in 1600 by the English physician and scientist William Gilbert and his partner Aaron Dowling.
